Festival Programme 2025

Over five days at the K3 Film Festival, Villach becomes a living crossroads of cultures, emotions and stories. Through cinema, so vividly experienced at a festival like K3, the world is explored from unexpected angles. Experimentation, poetry and creative courage connect and give voice to the three (K)ultural regions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli- Venezia Giulia — at the very heart of the K3 Film Festival.

The FILM COMPETITION presents six acclaimed works — from intimate family portraits to A-festival winners. In our SHORT FILM programme, you’ll find the festival’s most experimental and vibrant spirit. And with sections like “No Fund? Much Fun!” we playfully question what cinema truly needs.

Industry Meeting: CO-PRODUCTION IN PRACTICE
The Carinthia Film Commission and the Carinthian film and music industry are once again hosting the INDUSTRY MEETING, which traditionally takes place as part of the K3 Film Festival.

These two experienced producers share insights into the practical challenges and creative opportunities of international co-productions:
– Barbara Pichler (Director of the Festival of Austrian Film – Diagonale, 2008 – 2015; since 2016 film producer with KGP film production)
– Marina Gumzi (since 2012 managing director of NOSOROGI, Ljubljana-based atelier for production of author-driven films by up-and-coming filmmakers, present at K3 Film Festival with: FIUME O MORTE!, LITTLE TROUBLE GIRLS; shorts: ONE METRE IS SIX CENTIMETRES, COMMON PEAR, BABY MONEY)

SPECIAL PROGRAMME 2025: Hommage to KGP Filmproduktion
Based in Vienna with a focus on international co-productions of European auteur films, the company is now run by its founder, Gabriele Kranzelbinder, and Barbara Pichler as producers. Both have their roots in Carinthia, both like to return also with their film productions to Carinthia.

SPECIAL PROGRAMME 2025: No Fund? Much Fun!
Lengthy funding processes can stifle creative energy – but they can also release it. Between setbacks, script revisions and rejected applications, a film often gains the very polish that makes it shine. Yet sometimes, in all that shine, the raw and authentic get lost. With a wink, this programme asks: “How much money does a film really need – and what actually makes it better?”
We approach this selection with great curiosity and look forward to an open dialogue with filmmakers – and to discovering one or two unpolished gems. Raw Power!

Join us in celebrating cinema that captures life’s most fleeting moments — the longing to hold on, the courage to let go, and the stories born in between.
